What is Les Miserábles Literary Analysis?
Our project transforms Victor Hugo's "Les Misérables" into an interactive data analytics experience, allowing users to explore the novel through its characters, geographical locations, historical events, relationships, and emotional patterns.
We used AI-assisted data extraction to identify and structure information from the literary text, followed by extensive human curation, data cleaning, validation, and relational database modeling. Using SQL, Python, and Looker Studio, we transformed this structured dataset into interactive visualizations, including character journeys, geographical maps, relationship diagrams, and emotion-based analyses.
Our goal is to make classic literature more accessible, engaging, and insightful for literary tourism, readers, educators, researchers, and cultural institutions, demonstrating how data analytics and artificial intelligence can uncover new perspectives on literary works.
As next steps, we plan to expand our methodology to other literary works, refine our analytical tools, and explore new educational, cultural, and interactive applications.
