1. Describe the project/product

Pakka is a collaborative travel packing app that eliminates pre-trip stress by empowering users to create perfect, personalized packing lists in seconds. It solves the universal problems of overpacking, forgetting essentials, and wasting time on scattered advice by leveraging AI and community wisdom. The platform generates intelligent, context-aware lists tailored to a trip's destination, weather, travel style, and duration, making it indispensable for solo adventurers, couples, families, and business travelers alike.


2. How you built it

Pakka is a full-stack web application built with a Ruby on Rails backend for its robust MVC architecture. The responsive frontend was crafted with HTML, Sass, and JavaScript, using Stimulus.js for seamless interactivity. We rely on PostgreSQL to manage complex data relationships and Cloudinary for image uploads. The app is deployed on Heroku, and its core AI suggestion feature is powered by a prompt-engineered OpenAI API integration for highly relevant recommendations.


3. What are the next steps?

Our roadmap focuses on fixing existing issues and mostly enhancing discovery and collaboration:
- Discovery Features: A search bar and filter system to find public lists by destination, season, or type.
- Visual Exploration: An interactive map view to browse and discover packing lists globally.
- Multi-Destination Trips: Support for complex itineraries, generating a unified list that adapts to the climate and activities of each location.
- Group Packing Hub: Enabling entire travel groups to pack together on a single, synchronized list.
- Pre-Trip Hub: Integrating a pre-departure checklist and links to book activities from packing items.
